[영어 동화]The Special Day of the Rabbit and the Tortoise (토끼와 거북이의 특별한 날)

 

Once upon a time, in a forest, there lived a rabbit and a tortoise. The rabbit was very proud because he could run fast. The tortoise was slow, but he was a determined friend.

One day, the rabbit said to the tortoise, "Let's have a race! I'll show you how fast I am!"

The tortoise smiled and replied, "Okay, but maybe I can win!"

On the day of the race, all the forest friends gathered. The cricket gave the starting signal. "Ready, set, go!"

The rabbit dashed off quickly. The tortoise walked slowly but did not give up. The rabbit soon got far ahead and decided to take a short nap. "I have plenty of time to rest," the rabbit thought.

But while the rabbit was asleep, the tortoise kept walking steadily. As the tortoise was nearing the finish line, the rabbit woke up. The rabbit was shocked. "Oh no!" he shouted and ran toward the finish line, but it was too late.

The tortoise crossed the finish line first, and all the friends cheered. "The tortoise won!"

The rabbit approached the tortoise with a smile and said, "Well done, my friend. You won because you didn't give up."

The tortoise humbly replied, "Thank you, rabbit. You're always a great friend too."

Since that day, the rabbit and the tortoise became better friends, enjoying many adventures together.

 

 

옛날옛적에 숲 속에 토끼와 거북이가 살았어요. 토끼는 빠르게 달릴 수 있어서 자랑스러웠어요. 거북이는 느렸지만 끈기 있는 친구였죠.

어느 날, 토끼가 거북이에게 말했어요. "우리 경주를 해보자! 내가 얼마나 빠른지 보여줄게!"

거북이는 웃으며 대답했어요. "좋아, 하지만 내가 이길 수도 있어!"

경주 당일, 친구들이 숲 속에 모였어요. 귀뚜라미가 출발 신호를 알렸어요. "준비, 시작!"

토끼는 빠르게 출발했어요. 거북이는 천천히 걸었지만 포기하지 않았어요. 토끼는 멀찍이 앞서가다가 잠시 쉬기로 했어요. "잠깐 자도 괜찮을 거야," 토끼는 생각했어요.

하지만 토끼가 잠든 사이, 거북이는 멈추지 않고 꾸준히 걸어갔어요. 결국 거북이가 결승선에 거의 다다랐을 때, 토끼가 깨어났어요. 토끼는 깜짝 놀랐어요. "이럴 수가!" 하고 소리치며 결승선을 향해 달렸지만 이미 늦었어요.

거북이는 결승선을 넘었고 친구들은 환호했어요. "거북이가 이겼다!"

토끼는 거북이에게 다가가 미소 지으며 말했어요. "잘했어, 친구야. 끝까지 포기하지 않아서 네가 이겼어."

거북이는 겸손하게 대답했어요. "고마워, 토끼야. 너도 언제나 멋진 친구야."

그날 이후로, 토끼와 거북이는 더 좋은 친구가 되었고 함께 모험을 하며 즐거운 시간을 보냈답니다.
